VirtualBox 2.0.4 vs Virtual PC 2007 SP1

I’m a big fan of virtualization, possibly because I can not afford a machine for every operating system I want to try. Possibly because I’ve been know to acquire questionable files on the net, and don’t really want any viruses. Maybe I like it because there’s just something cool about running four operating systems on one machine. I don’t know, but I really do like it: just no enough to pay for it....

I took a three part philosophy / humanities class two years ago. One of the more interesting ideas that came up involved a shed that was transformed into a boat, and then back into a shed. The same shed. Well, identical, in any case. All of the same pieces were used; nothing was added, nothing was removed. The real crux of the issue was whether it was the same shed. Was it?...

24 hours of ART, and late homework

Well, the pictures are not up yet, but the art is complete. I spent a good deal of time on project one, with the final twenty-four hour stretch being the most creative. And yet, the art seems reminiscent of an eight year-old’s work. My critique went well, however… so perhaps my own view is too hash. I’ll try and get pictures of some of the pieces up within the next few weeks....

Tea, Economics, Paint — and thoughts on existence

I’ve got a cup of green tea, three open windows (it is a beautiful 50° F), and a pile of homework due shortly. I’m [supposed to be] working on two multi-part (multi-part meaning over a dozen sub-questions each) economics questions due Monday and my first art project due Tuesday. After reading about mathematically described recursive data structures all day, I’m taking a little break to write. So, here we are. You, me, and some extemporaneous thoughts to follow:...

Connect the circles – or not…

Well, I’m working on graph theory. Thought I’d throw out a little puzzle, in case you’re bored this Sunday afternoon. The challenge: connect the circles with the same numbers, but don’t allow any of your connections to intersect. You shouldn’t go outside the rectangle. It’s not terribly difficult, but might entertain you for a minute or two. …

How-to: download trials of Adobe CS4 products TODAY

I have a mild obsession with new software, and Adobe just released Creative Suite 4 a few days ago. Naturally, I wanted to give it a go. I searched the torrents, and only found pre-releases. A few Google searches left me disappointed, saying that Adobe didn’t plan on releasing trials of its new products until sometime in November. Then, I stumbled on this page: http://secretsoftheinternets.wordpress.com/2008/10/17/download-the-adobe-cs4-suite-early/ that gave me a tip. It was just a bit off…...

The Problem with a Personal Blog

Publishing a personal blog, however neglected, poses some interesting dilemmas. Whatever you publish is open to everyone on the Internet: this includes those people that know you – potentially those people that like you. You’re writing for people you may interact with, may care about, people you may sometimes have to explain yourself to. This is problematic, because you are aware of this. This awareness becomes particularly nagging when you’d like to explore wild topics, attack certain ideas, grapple with less accepted points of view....

12-Oct-2008

I’m feeling terribly un-inventive, as you may have been able to gather from the title. Which it sort of weird, because I just got done writing this poem. It’s not particularly creative, but it was rather spontaneous. [By the way, I have updated the poetry commenting system. It is operational again.] So, maybe you saw it coming. I made a trip to a local casino with my uncle. I didn’t gamble, but I did walk out a winner....

Those Ghosts

Into and out of the realm Like apparitions they faded I stood watching, confused; Never becoming jaded. I’d almost forgoten them, But for a scent, or a phrase Would bring them back And they’d linger for days Almost mad at their presence, I struggled terribly within To banish them, forget them, So they’d never come again. I would sweat in the stillness The cold darkness of night Blurry-eyed and frustrated…...

Would You Like Sex With That… ?

Today is Oct. 7th. I’m 21 years old as of earlier this morning, and instead of partying – I’m reading about tuples, graphs, and functions. Not the most exciting day, but I did have a nice time making my very first charcoal drawings. I also went out on a limb and ordered pizza… So, what’s with the title? Well, I read a very interesting article that I’d like to share:...
